The pitching against Houston on Wednesday was terrible (5 batters hit?), but the Nats pulled it out and Soriano got his 16th save!

Father's Day bike ride to the Lincoln Memorial
I love being able to con my wife and daughter into a Father's Day bike ride to the National Mall.
Happy Father's Day to all the Dads!

Happy New Year
One of the things I love about DC is that it usually doesn't take very much snow to get a "snow day"...didn't work for this last storm (and it definitely didn't need to be this cold!), but there's plenty of winter left!

Woodrow Wilson Bridge
I'm not sure when the Mount Vernon Bike Trail portion that goes under the Virginia side of the new Wilson Bridge finally opened up, but today was the first time i had the chance to ride down and see it.
The new bridge really is beautiful, at least from the perspective of a bike rider. I'm sure there are commuters who want to blow it up now, too, just like the old span, but from a bike, you can appreciate the artistry!

Bear's Den
Bear's Den is an old stone mansion located just off Route 7 west of Purcellville. The house is perched on top of a little hill with a rocky ledge that offers a great view of the woods out there, and the property provides excellent access to the Appalachian Trail. You can park your car in the parking lot (they lock the gate at the end of the driveway each night) and head out on the AT. That's just what my wife and I did this weekend.
Three miles south on the trail is Sam Moore Shelter and Sawmill Spring. It's a pretty challenging hike down there, but it's worth it! We had a campfire, made S'mores, and had a little cinnamon whisky to chase away the cold last night!

Mites on Ice
At each of the Caps' home games, kids from the local youth hockey clubs in Maryland and northern Virginia get to play a short game on the ice at Verizon Center during the first intermission.
They call them "Mites on Ice" and they're a blast to watch! My wife snapped this great picture of a kid on a breakaway, on his way to scoring a goal and earning the title "Mite of the Night"!
btw: Caps beat the Wild in a shootout last night! They're on a 4-game streak!
